| 159179 | 2003-07-14 11:34:00 | pcmcia pc card 'cd rom drives' may not be able to boot. then ... looks like u have no network card. as this model does not have them builtin and u make no mention of a network pcmcia or pc card. now .. either use a external floppy if u can get hold of one. or use a usb cd rom drive as these CAN be bootable. or take the hard drive out, but a cable and connect to the PC format it, FDISK it and format it, then copy the Windows CD into one folder in the Hard drive. when u format the hard drive use: format x: /s x: is the drive. if its D: then use D: N. |

| 159180 | 2003-07-14 11:43:00 | i had this pcmcia or pc card cd drive in 1997 ;) i had the sound card with the builtin cd interface card. i did not buy the cd rom drive. ok.. it may be possible to get to DOS straight from bootup. Press F8. type "format c: /s" restart .. hopefully it boots then u can set up the CD Drive. then when its set up right u can install windows. settin the cd drive remains to be a hurdle cos u somehow need to access the install files for the cd drive. i am pretty sure there are DOS drivers for the cd drive. since the hdd will be formatted and the cdrom needs to be installed first. either use network card off a mate? Or use a bootable cdrom or floppy drive to access those files to install the cdr drive. hooking the laptop hdd to the pc is a good soln. |

| 159181 | 2003-07-14 11:53:00 | one thing is: have u tried booting the windows CD off the cdr drive? i doubt it work cos its via pcmcia ... press F8 if u can get to the menu upon start up. choose command prompt try to format it "format c:/s" restart ... now u have to install the drivers for cdr drive. this is the hard one. prob easiest to take it out put in desktop pc; fdisk it, format, copy windows cd into it. then install it. cables able to get in DSE. while u can buy, use and return its not something i encourage .... |
