Your right of free speech does not extend to foul language (albeit in common slang Japanese) that you have posted on this forum . I refer you to your post of 27 June . Before you claim your right to free speech therefore, I believe an apology would be in order . I, and many others here who are normally very tolerant are offended by your attitude in this matter . Of course nobody can "tell you what you can and can't say" Common decency should however control your expressions in a public arena . Your apology is awaited in order that you can justify your "free speech" claim with any credibility at all . |

We've just started buying compaqs due to budget cuts (the dells are about $400 more) and I've had nothing but trouble. I keep pleading with my boss to change his mind and get Dells!!! | 159137 | 2003-07-14 01:04:00 | For Personal Use: Buy an NZ Brand and select all you own components, from CPU, mobo, Graphics Card, HDD, Display, CD/DVD etc. In Auckland you have TL Systems, BLC, Edencomputers and many others. Most over warranties and have been around awhile. They even have websites which let you build a systems based on what you want to spend. Mainstream brands: Dell, Compaq/HP, IBM, generally underperform a custombuilt PC for the dollars. |

| 159138 | 2003-07-14 09:35:00 | Hi Thomas After your post I checked our Job Management System to see how bad they had been . Some interesting Stats about our new compaqs we have purchased 8 Compaq laptops and 40 PC's 4 laptops had to have there motherboard replaced . (They were all from the same batch) ( I would suspect a large number of EVO N610 have gone back within a month of shipping) of the PCs we've had 1 with faulty internal speakers, 3 Faulty Hard Drives 2 Faulty motherboards and 1 which Compaq replaced without saying what the fault was . All of these problems happened within 6months of shipping!!!! This is close to 20% of all PC's and 50% of laptops . Regards Marshell |

| 159140 | 2003-07-14 10:43:00 | Wow wot a response! Almost got Powa & Godfather in the ring. Thanks for the various replies. Now - has anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with PB Technology in Ak? | Garibaldi (3838) | ||
| 159141 | 2003-07-14 11:42:00 | My experience (limited as to numbers for Dell) suggests Dell are good quality, and reliable. That they may be less than "standard" puts them in the same boat as many brand-names, but shouldn't detract from the value overall. While brand names can be expensive to fully upgrade or repair when old, my experience is that they are good value for money - for what they are designed for. If you want to tinker then build your own. If you want basic office and internet in an economical reliable manner, then a brand name is the way to go. Restore CDs are preferred where the owner is not overly computer literate in my experience. Where the owner is a geek, full system CDs are better. I have had fleets of Compaq PCs (about 40) to manage, they were fine. Any built to order or DIY PCs had poor reliability in comparison probably based on the choices of components used long term. Major manufacturers usually get it right more often. I presently run 6 PCs, of which only one is DIY. They date from 1997 to the latest, and the brand name PCs have performed flawlessly. |

| 159142 | 2003-07-14 12:12:00 | i have had a report of a dell pc that chewed through 3 hardrives all of which where replaced under warranty and the tech actually drove the 3 hour round trip to install it (unlike most courior it back to us repairs most companies do). >Any built to order or DIY PCs had poor reliability in comparison probably based on the choices of components used long term. Major manufacturers usually get it right more often. strangly enough i would have to agree. having said that most of the custom built ones i have seen have been budget built jobs. major companies eg dell, compac do put a lot of work into R&D on a pc. after haveing to repair 10000 pc's due to a design fault is very expensive. |
