159680 2003-07-14 10:24:00 1. Can a midi file be converted to .wav?

2. On the odd occasion I have to resort to System Restore it seems to disable NAV - should it?

3. Is there any free source of a good range of sound effects?

Thanks in advance for any or all solutions.

159681 2003-07-14 12:15:00 In answer to Q1: I doubt that a midi file can be 'converted' to .wav, as a midi file does not contain any music as such.

The midi file consists of instructions for the PC soundcard to generate the sounds of instruments, pitch, & tempo etc.

But there is a way to reproduce the sound as a wav or mp3 file, if you have suitable player & recording applications on the PC. I have done this by playing the midi in say Win media player, and at the same time recording the music in MusicMatch, as a mp3. or .wav file.

It is tricky to get both on screen & operating at the same time, plus setting the appropriate inputs & outputs in the Windows sound mixer.

Whether it is worth the effort depends on what you wish to achieve, and the resulting quality will depend on the midi quality produced by your soundcard.

Goodluck.

2. CS Sinclair 83 - do you think so? Thanks, I'll keep in mind.....and 3. Just a source of a good range of sound effects chiefly for adding to the sound tracks of videos. Any ideas?
