With the kitchen having the biggest priority I bet. ;-)

Caffy, when I forgot to close my vertical blinds the other day I was astounded to discover that the thermometer perched on top of my PC desk was reading nearly 40 deg C after sitting in full sun for half an hour. That is way hotter than I would have thought it would get, particularly in winter, and I cannot imagine it being good for the PC.

A computer teacher once told us that her floppy discs kept dying on her until she discovered that they were sitting in the sun for a few hours each day and warned us to keep the sun off ours.

To protect your parents' computer they could have some blinds made up for that window that will open and close from the top down. I can't remember what they are called now but they are concentina-like and can be made for all sorts of awkward windows. I do know that I would be wanting to protect my computer if it were me.

159526 2003-07-15 00:14:00 just a quik event that happened to me:
I had my PC and Monitor up against a wall for about a yr, anyway, had to move pc, when i move it, i noticed that (on a peachy/orangy coloured wallpaper) where the monitor had been, it had "burnt" the wallpaper - the section directly behind the back of the monitor had turned a greyish/blackish. I was amazed - pc had only been there for a year, and there was about 15cm between wall and monitor.
I just thought I'd point that out :)
