159459 2003-07-13 22:22:00 I have an old compaq deskpro and the only way to get into the bios settings is from the hard drive from a file called sp8126.exe, this file needs to be run from floppy, but it's 2.8MB? On the Compaq site it said that you need three floppys to run it.

Any help?

159461 2003-07-13 23:04:00 If you run the sp8126.exe, it should extract files from itself into a new folder. Go to that folder and run "Makedisk.bat". This will prompt you to insert the 3 floppy disks to be written. wuppo (41)
159462 2003-07-14 00:11:00 I just wonder whether you can leave it on the C: then use the boot disk and select DOS prompt only.

eg if you copied file to c: root, then used boot disk and went ...

cd c:\
sp8126.exe

Otherwise I suppose you could make a virtual dirve to unpack to like the Windows boot disk does for utilities. Even a boot CD might be the answer if all else fails.

159463 2003-07-14 05:25:00 This is Compaq's way of installing the BIOS Setup/VP and PC Diagnostics --- the equivalent (and a bit more) of the BIOS Setup in ROM of "common" computers. :D . When you have done the recommended process, you will have a fully working system.

1) get three floppies. 2)Do a scandisk (surface check) on them. 3)Run this exe programnme. It will tell you what to label each disk as it asks you to put it in.

You can then either boot the first one to do BIOS setup, or (the proper way) you can let it install the contents of the three floppies on a special partition it will make on the HD. This will be of type 12, so it will be invisible to Windows.
That will work io you are starting with a clean HD. I don't know how it will cope if you want to add it to a fully allocated Windows/DOS system :D

You could try using one of the "Magic" partitioners to make a space for it ... probably 5-10 MB would do. (Leave that space "unallocated" ... )
