1317652 2012-12-12 01:35:00 I read the article . :)

So the "they" you're referring to *is* the Maori party?

If not, who?

“They” refers to the collective of The Maori Party along with associated Quangos, Commission’s, Committee’s et al .

You can sort out which one has its hand out and for what, but expect the rules to change next week . :groan:

1317653 2012-12-12 02:05:00 Try and concentrate on the subject Terr.

What was the name of your school b4 the change?

Oldbury County High School, if you Google it, the first item is Wikipedia which gets the date wrong. The name actually changed in 1948. Trivial I know, but an example of how errors are propagated, and nothing like the Kapiti Maori "reseachers" in the David Round article being able to remember from the 1820s who's garden may now have some wahi tapu.

Quote: "Even as we speak, the Kapiti District Council is proposing the establishment of forty wahi tapu on private property in its district."

This was in the local news recently, and I have to say it made me crease up in disbelief.

Not nice Terr, but you will have seen largely apathy on this forum, hence we get what we deserve.

You can alter or something at Wikipedia, can you not?

1317655 2012-12-12 03:18:00 Yes, maybe I should find out how to edit Wiki.

I found the article on the Kapiti wahi tapu debacle which David Round referred to:

"Karl du Fresne: Shafted by their own council "

breakingviewsnz.blogspot.co.nz

"One property owner is quoted as saying Maori researchers believed a pa site and an urupa (burial ground) may have been on his land. But the property had been in European ownership and farmed since 1830, and previous owners had never mentioned a pa site. "

"The owner is now prevented from carrying out earthworks, modifying existing buildings or subdividing. Just like that. "

"Does this mean, I wonder, that a property owner will have to pay koha to the local iwi for the right to plant lettuce and tomato plants? I'm not being entirely flippant, because given the now-routine ritual subservience to Maori claims, which can delay a highway construction project because of concerns that a taniwha might be disturbed, anything is possible."
