1317903 2012-12-12 19:25:00 Hmm went tramping on Sunday and met two 77 year olds on top of Little Mt Peel. It made me puff getting up there and I'm only half that guys age gary67 (56)

At 73 he was still tramping into his camp at Mitre Flats along his own track with a cross cut saw over his shoulder. I'm not sure how long after that age he continued to do so.
A real tough old character he was, with a heart of gold. Called his hut (something) Rum Jungle. A mate would pick him up and take him to Masterton where at the Horse Shoe he would acquire a flagon of rum. When he got home he would pour half into another flagon and add water and that would be his ration for the week.
