If everyone had money no one would want to be a cleaner, we'd all want to be the kings, very quickly money would have no value. In the same way as buying your first house is a massive achievement. As is sitting down in front of a new TV and stereo and enjoying what you have earned.

Therein lies the point, we need the satisfaction of gaining things to actually enjoy it. Those who have cheated in games will know that needing x money to buy all the things would be great.... then when you "cheat" it the game is fun for all of 30s.... fun until the novelty wears off. Humans are also satisfied by showing what they have achieved, showing off the fact that they own a flash house etc.

I do agree there is a massively disproportionate imbalance however it's only come about because of a system that revolves around wealth and being wealthy. As long as the "poor" are not in poverty and people have some relative comfort/goals in their lives the system will float. There will always be massive wealth in a small area. The problem with it beings when people get "stuck", the ones with no money can't see themselves ever getting out of it, they turn to drugs, alcohol sex and abuse. Effectively slums form in society because they "just don't care". Why save for their kid's educations? They have no future is the type of attitude that will cause a society to collapse. Middle income earners get stuck trying to lift themselves out of that heap, work too hard and they too fall into ruin, bad choices ruin their lives. Essentially what you get at the end is poverty and the very wealthy.

As long as people have hope for the future they can do great things, for some "great things" might be living ok in the proverbial "ghetto", getting by with their garage based car/electronics repairs or by their crafting skills, money is good enough and they can feed their family. Maybe save a bit. For the middle income, perhaps their job is stable. The loan is paid off and they are saving. For the rich, they stay rich but stock markets can kill or in the case of Apple, bad management (I don't like Tim Cook and his team, bring back Jobs! At least what he made was a decent product!)

The whole system is a grey hound race, show the prize and keep it just out of reach, every now and then pull it away but always keep it out of reach.

That's how I observe it anyway.

1317789 2012-12-12 10:15:00 The dream of 'Equality' for all is long gone from my mind Cicero, I think that quite soon we will be fully engaged dealing with 'Anthropogenic Climate Change' and it's effects.

We won't have time to be worried about such piddling concerns as money and equal sharing of resources.

1317790 2012-12-12 17:04:00 The Error Chap seems to be saying, we are where we are because that is the way it is.I think we live in a time where we can produce enough for all to be doing well, but we do not have a system that allows for the those at bottom of heap to partake.

Sweden has a fair system (www.sweden.se) but is it the answer?

All the experts in the world can't tell us, and that includes yours truly.

Hmmm .

So only if you worked hard do you enjoy it?
Wrong .
There are loads of people who inherited it and seem to be having a great time . They are not sitting about thinking, oh god, I have this wealth, how miserable I am .

Likewise the thieves . . . . . investment thieves, dictators and so on . They seem quite happy enjoying the ill gotten gains .

Then you say the poor are there because it's their own fault .
All poor people resort to substance abuse and sit around from then on .

Some poor may do, most don't .
