160083 2003-07-15 20:45:00 on the xp machine you can use the network wizard, Go to control panel - Network connections & click on Setup a home or small office network.

160084 2003-07-15 23:22:00 Also turn off the riddiculous XP firewall as this causes nothing but problems with home networking. Odin (227)
160085 2003-07-15 23:55:00 I would also suggest turning off ANY firewall until the network is set up. Susan B (19)

Make sure that with crossover both network cards are set to 10Mbps half duplex (assuming both cards are 10/100Mbps cards). Sounds slow but unless you got a network Switch you ain't gonna get reliably faster.

the person is useing a crossover cable so there is no hub to slow it down. 100Mbs full duplex will work fine provided both network cards support it.
