| 159856 | 2003-07-15 05:11:00 | A friend recently updated to XP and using Outlook for email finds that some email attachments are arbitrarily blocked. She knows that they are good and wants to access the attachments (some are from me) :-) The message she receives is: "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your email" What is "OE"? She is running Norton Internet Security, but the all settings there appear OK - same as my own and I have no such problem. I'm not too familiar with Outlook because I use Eudora Pro. Any clues appreciated... |

| 159858 | 2003-07-15 05:36:00 | OE is Outlook Express. To stop OE removing access to attachments, open Outlook Express, and click on Tools > Options. When a window has opened, click on the 'Security' tab, and *deselect* the box next to "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" |

| 159859 | 2003-07-15 05:38:00 | I was wondering, has anyone written up a FAQ on this. As this question comes up quite a lot... ? So next time someone asks this question again, we can just direct them to the FAQ section :) |

| 159860 | 2003-07-15 05:39:00 | Hi Sami, OE is Outlook Express, The free basic version of Outlook that your friend will be using . This issue is a feature of Outlook Express but can be easily changed . Go to the 'Tools' menu and click 'Options' . Select the 'Security' tab and clear the 'Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus' check box under Virus Protection . This should sort your friends problem . |

| 159862 | 2003-07-15 05:46:00 | MS have generated more emails and phone calls about this problem than any other stupid thing they have done. It would have been so easy to have the message state - If you are sure you want to open attachments go to Tools/Options etc Attachments are a part of normal emails, even though they are unable to design a secure system they could at least give the instructions on how to remove restrictions that they put in place. |

Norton checks all incoming so there should be no problem and she now knows that Norton won't work unless she regularly updates the virus definitions. NAV is set to live update, but she just uses here connection for email and so NAV never has time to do the necessary. However she has promised to do the job manually at least once a week. | Sami (667) | ||

They may be OK for those with high speed connections but on a dialup it is hopeless. As an example go to FAQ 8b and check the time it takes to load. |
