2003-07-15 03:51:00 | My user account (WinXP Home) is corrupt, because of the missing taskbar issue I've talked about on a previous thread. I want to transfer all my files, settings, program settings, etc. onto a new user account, which hopefully wouldn't have this problem. How can I go about doing this? I suspect there are registry entries which are involved, so manually doing it might be a bit difficult.

Have not tried it myself and it is possible that it could recreate your old problems on the new user account so it is up to you whether you try it or not. Press the Win key + Pause to get System Properties up > Advanced tab > User Profiles settings and do your stuff in there (copy one User settings to another). |

2003-07-15 09:15:00 | Thanks Susan. However, it lets me do anything to accounts, except mine. I've tried logging in as me, and also logging in using another account with Administrator access. The Copy To and Delete buttons are greyed out. Any ideas?

2003-07-15 09:16:00 | I've tried this, but it seems to transfer all settings for all user accounts, and not just for mine. I didn't actually let if finish, as my user account took up 3gb of space at that time.

2003-07-16 02:44:00 | Thanks Susan. The first "here" seemed to be of most help, but I haven't actually tried it yet. I will give it a go and post my results on here. | somebody (208) | |
2003-07-16 06:08:00 | Good News!!!!!!! That first "Here" link worked, and now my user account is functioning properly. After I did it the first time, I thought i'd try to be smart and copy the registry entries as well. Well, after I did, it made my computer go so slow it crashed. After repeating the first attempt (without trying to be smart) I have now got my account working properly. Thanks for your help Susan.
