160524 2003-07-17 07:30:00 I have had my box upgrade for exactly one week, and up till yesterday it booted in less than 40 seconds. Then yesterday it developed a problem - the taskbar 1) froze for two to three minutes after booting up, and nothing on it could be accessed, and 2) it lost the "hide inactive toolbars" function and despite frequent attempts to reset this option, it remains disabled, along with the items last hidden by it, which refuse to reappear after the "always show" option on the menu is selected. I have a nasty sneaking suspicion that some patch or auto update from Microsoft (the auto-update was turned on by default) has caused the odd spot of collateral damage. Are there any fixes that anyone knows of that don't involve "learning to live without" features of the software that one has shelled out for?
Cheers.

160525 2003-07-17 08:01:00 Try a system restore (Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore) and go back to the last point. If that does not work, go back another one.

Alternatively, if you think it was an update that did the damage you should be able to go to Add/Remove Programs and remove any updates from there.

160526 2003-07-18 05:28:00 Thanks very much. I appear to have solved it myself, however, without resorting to either of these options, by redoing the task bar settings, ticking the "lock taskbar" option, and then rebooting. I don't know if it was that, or something else, or just a realignment of planetary influences! Windows is like that. Thanks again for your help,
Cheers,
FitzBuglitt.
