2003-07-16 14:01:00 | Hi , my adsl speed drops quit dramatically from at least 10k/s at off-peak time down to just about 4k/s-7k/s , any body face the problem as well? They told me to test the speed for than with a traceroute , but i dont really how to do it ? Would anyone help me ? And anyone can suggests other ISPs that will better than Paradise? | scottiepipen (4247) | |
2003-07-16 14:09:00 | Use Neotrace. And type in the address for paradise and it will bounce along and tell you where you get held up. Also make sure you line is plugged in properly and maybe get telecom to do a line test for line noise if it gets worse. | Odin (227) | |
2003-07-16 14:21:00 | You can do a trace-route without downloading any app. Go to your DOS-prompt and type in tracert <<website address>>. For e.g., to run a traceroute to the Telecom NZ web-site, you would go tracert www.telecom.co.nz I use Xtra for my ADSL connection and haven't had any problems thus far. They've got 24x7 support as well. Hope this helps.

Paradise basically manages your account and provides your IP address when it receives the authentication request from your modem. | Terry Porritt (14) | ||
2003-07-17 03:20:00 | Depends on the porting setup. Although Telecom handle the trafficing, usually the I.P can bottleneck your connection, server assigned address & so on. I'm with IHUG & get nice speeds through them & most of the data I download seems to be ported through their backbone. Telecom however do bottleneck your connection, in either assumption either their DSLAM (ADSL network) is getting a good hammering or Paradise is throttling the bandwidth economise their network.

2003-07-17 06:18:00 | Another reason I suggested Telecom (and lines etc) is that I havent had any bandwidth throttling (as far as I know) by Paradise (Wellington) since getting ADSL. The only problem with them has been loss of authentication and IP address from time to time, due either to server problems at their end or maybe them running out of IP addresses to allocate. | Terry Porritt (14) | |
2003-07-17 09:06:00 | try going to www.jetstreamgames.co.nz/speed and doing the 500K download test.If you are getting around 15-16K downloads, then the problem is Paradise. If you aren't getting this speed, then the problem could be Telecom.See what happens, Peter
