160814 2003-07-18 06:29:00 Hi guys ^^

I was wondering, how do we find out if our graphic card is a 3 . 3V or 1 . 5V type? I have a Radeon 9000Pro 128DDR (RV25A-C3) I checked the manuel of the card and the online product site . . . . None of them has anything about if the card is a 3 . 3V type or a 1 . 5V type . The only thing I found out was, it needs a 3 . 3V AGP slot, so does this mean that its a 3 . 3V type card? I'm asking this question because I'm deciding to buy this new m/b, ASUS P4P800-VM . They said this m/b only supports 0 . 8V and 1 . 5V AGP cards and does not support 3 . 3V cards . Right now, even though I have a 4X AGP slot and a 4X card, my Radeon 9000 just won't run at 4X cause m/b is running with a VIA chipset :_| . They said if I ran it on an Intel chipset type m/b, the Radeon will run at full speed, 4X .

Thanks alot for your help ^^

160815 2003-07-18 06:53:00 um,to my knowledge if the slot is 3 . 3 volt then that will only run at 2xagp,So i would go out on a limb here and say you have a 2xagp slot, which would be why your not getting 4xagp,nothing to do with via, millions of boards running via chipsets at 4x and 8xagp .

Now about your card

compatible with AGP 2X (3 . 3v), 4X (1 . 5V), 8X (0 . 8v) or Universal AGP 3 . 0 bus configuration (2X/4X/8X) .

i think your safe to buy the new mobo .

160817 2003-07-18 07:26:00 Thanks alot for your help, Metla . Now I can safely go buy the m/b with no worries ^^ . One question if you don't mind . . . . My current m/b does have a 4X AGP slot . I get my 2X reading if I have Win98Se on, but if I have WinXP I'll get a reading saying my card is running 4X . Any idea on which OS I should believe ?:| ? I've emailed to the Powercolor(since it was they're brand) it was them who said that "since my m/b is a VIA chipet type the card won't run at 4X . To keep the card stable the new drivers (even then old one) will set the graphic card to run at 2X" :( . After receiving that email, it really got me off buying VIA chipset boards . . . .

Well, like I said, Thanks alot for your help ^^ . Very much appreciated ^^

160818 2003-07-18 10:02:00 Certainly seems your card/drivers have an issue with the via chipset then,Dunno about the different os's giving different readings but my guess is that would be down to a driver issue.

What's your agp set at in the bios?

and i personally would avoid the via chipset, ive used them for multiple machines and found they were prone to conflicts...especially on machines used for gaming.

160819 2003-07-18 11:41:00 My AGP slot speed in the bios is set at 4x . . . . Well, I'm going to change to a Intel board soon, so I guess only than I'll find out if its the driver problem or the card . . . .

Thanks again ^^
