160597 2003-08-02 08:59:00 Hey Weta,
Can you keep us informed of your experience with Wired Country (wiredcountry.co.nz/) (www.iconz.co.nz) as I have been notified that my area (Papakura) is now covered and don't want to jump ship until I hear someone's experience with it. If you have a good run then I'll probably shift from Telecom when the phone service goes live on Wired Country.

160599 2003-08-02 13:41:00 How about we all set up PayPal accounts, and pay Peter Coleman to do some corporate espionage for us. Apparently if you sign up for a new PayPal account now, you get $5 free. ;) (www.paypal.com) PoWa (203)
160600 2003-08-06 12:24:00 Well, it's all installed and running SWEEEEEET! :D
Admittedly there were a couple of teething problems but that was only due to both WC and ICONZ being new at getting the wireless connections set up. WC forgot to complete part of the 'commissioning' at their end and ICONZ weren't sure how I should set up my PC, but they did have all the info required to hand (IP addresses etc).

I now have a static IP address, running into my Buffalo AirStation 4-port router and wireless LAN access point, and my desktop wired and my wife's laptop running wireless off it.

I'm getting 40-45k/sec download from gameplanet.co.nz and 28k/sec upload to my USA-based webhost.

I'm currently part of their pre-launch trial but it looks like ICONZ is now marketing it so it should be available to everyone in the area real soon.

160602 2003-08-07 17:10:00 Thus far I've had four shots at getting Broad band . First, Jetstream in E/Tamaki, only to be informed by telecom that because it's a new suburb and the lines are all fibre optic, their technologies not up to it .

Walker Antennaless were no help, we couldn't see the sky tower .

Moved back South of the bombays to where TC have upgraded the local exchange to adsl . . . . too bad I'm too far from the exchange for it to be any good .

Finally along comes www . southwaikato . net . . . . . 802 . 11b wi-fi or whatever, at last it seemed within grasp . Yesterday I was told it was no go . . . . there was a tree in the way! This in the South Waikato?

I am beginning to realise it's all a bloody pipedream . Peter C, sorry? Watch this space?? Forgive my cynicism .

One thing that has been a constant through all of this is that the service provided by each of the above was universally bad . The "couldn't-give-a-toss" attitude is still alive and well within the local IT community .

Roof with all that yawning, you should go to bed earlier, perchance to dream of having ADSL;)

160604 2005-04-27 05:01:00 Ok,

Sorry, new poster, currently living in the UK, moving out to NZ next month to Hamilton.

Does this mean then that my 2mb static non-nat service un-capped cannot be matched in New Zealand?

OMG! I can't even find a decent 512k service, can anyone tell me who is the best ISP to use in Hamilton? I need to give this very serious attention.

Regards.
