160820 2003-07-18 06:58:00 I have been given to believe that NT does not have Defrag ability. I find this a bit hard to believe. Would someone please put me right? Thanks. KB. kbcad (1025)

?:| - I use NT4 (+SP6) at work and it has a defrag utility. You access it by right clicking on the Drive icon under My Computer and selecting Properties > Tools.

160823 2003-07-18 07:58:00 that is right.

out of the box NT has no defrag command/function.

when MS made NT they tried to tell us that the system was designed so the drive would never need to be defraged and so no function was included. they where wrong :-) you might note that windows 2k and XP are based on the NT design and both come with a defrag......

you can get a defrag program for it from the Net (dont have a URL sorry)
have a look at downloads.com or tucows.com

160826 2003-07-18 12:49:00 Use Diskeeper since MS use a modified version of Diskeeper in both 2000 and XP after negotiating with Executive Software. Merlin (503)
160827 2003-07-18 13:34:00 Nope, the others are Right NT does not have a native defrag with it . You have to download the defrag program from Microsoft or use a third party one .

One thing strikes me as odd though, Correct me if I'm wrong though, but I don't think microsoft even bothered to include the defrag in any of the service packs either which is even stupider than not putting it in in the first place . .
