160756 2003-07-18 04:24:00 Hi F1,

Can you tell me how I can turn on DMA in Windows 2000 Pro. for the CD ROM/Writer drives.

I am using Ahead Nero for writing CD’s and I have been advised to make sure that DMA is turned on for these drives.

Nero Info Tool kit tells me that DMA is turned on for my hard drive and that DMA for the CD ROM/Writer drives is turned off.

Regards

160757 2003-07-18 04:36:00 Right click on My Computer and click Manage.
Click on Device Manager
Open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Open first the Primary, then the Secondary IDE Channel Properties.
Click the Advanced Settings Tab, and ensure that 'Use DMA if Available' is selected in the Transfer Mode drop down menu.

If you do not have an Advanced Settings tab then you may have an Intel based chipset and will need to run the 'Intel Application Accelerator' utility from the start menu.
If your system insists on using PIO mode for the CD ROM then you may need to get motherboard drivers for your system, connect the CD ROM to a different IDE connector, buy a new drive, or replace the IDE cable.

Only if they have scratch marks from Noah's screwdriver!
