The old "intuitive" bit. > > Once upon a time decent manuals were supplied with > the OS for DOS and Windows 3.x Very true... They should never have invented Windows and we could be up to DOS 23.8 by now. :-) That would beat the Mac as their only up to ten. And we wouldn't have a registry either!!! > > Fact is, it is all pretty pretty difficult and > esoteric, but having said that, I wish people would > spend just that extra amount when they buy a > computer, to get a good book or books so that they > can read up about things. PC Magazines of various types is what I read and I kept on pushing keys 'til it broke. PCUser Groups in your local town is another good source of information. |

No... I agree... But what I just asked for may be read by readers in the future. There is a search function here you know. > Classic case, someone will ask abour digi cams,we get > answers for about 3 days, which says it all,2 days > later someone asks what digi cam should I buy.Pretty > obvious even to me that that is the way it must be. True.... But even so.... I have a right to my opinion and I'm only suggesting that people try to help themselves more. Just remember the old adage:- Something like GIVE a Man a fish you feed him today. TEACH him how to fish you feed him forever. > As for Dumb Bell,I can say without fear of > contadiction, there is no one here that doesn't take > pleasure in helping you out,so it's not you,it's the > way the format goes,so lift your head and know we are > with you till the end;) Well see my recent post to Dumb-Bell. I'm still trying to help now that I know MORE about what is happening. |

Teach a man to fish; and you can sell him fishing equipment. or: Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you will not have to listen to his incessant whining about how hungry he is. Baldy:-) How you going Elephant. Long time no hear (lost your email addy) |

| 161198 | 2003-07-20 04:01:00 | People don't read FAQs, they won't read manuals (even if they've got them . What people will do is say" "My computer doesn't work . HEEELP!!!" It's the challenge which keeps us here . :D Terry's right . . . those who have told people "intuitive, user-friendly" have a lot to answer for . It has never been easy . It will never be easy . When there were manuals, things became nasty when the manuals started being bigger than the computers . (Remember the VAX /VMS Wall of Manuals, anyone? The RT11 books weren't too bad) . |

Could we not ask our PressF1 gurus to add notes beside each so that when we tick one then we are at the same time reminded - eg . . . . if it is operating system . . . say which operating system you use? If it is an application which version and which operating system do you use ? Each of the six categories has some aspects which would typically lend themselves to particular types of information being more likely to be of relevance . It is not a foolproof suggestion by any means but it could be useful . What do you think ! :) :) |
