Blimin great and friendly service, and free delivery anywhere in NZ! Highly reccommended. I think they've got the cheapest deal still. You can't imagine how many hours I spent on pricespy looking for the thing :D

I can't link directly to the page, they use php or something. Anyway youre looking for Hard disk drives -> IDE 7200rpm page and then find

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Plus 120GB
7200RPM IDE ATA100 Hard Disk Drive
8MB cache 9.4ms seek time (actually 8.5ms manufacturers specs)
= $233 and 3 year warranty.

Note most hard drives only have 1yr warranty these days, except the premium models. And I can't hear the thing at all. ;)

160995 2003-07-19 10:45:00 My preference is Seagate but I have to say that I have had two Maxtor drives and have had no problems with them either.

Just a few days ago I was supplied a western digital ( I asked for a Seagate) which I wanted to put into a computer as the main drive and have the current Seagate in a removable bay for backup.

I wanted to have the new drive as Master primary, the old drive Slave primary. I also wanted to have the CDWriter as Master secondary and the DVD player Slave secondary.

The western digital went in and was fine as Master primary but when I attached the 20 Gig Seagate as slave neither drive was recognized by the BIOS. I have since put the Western Digital in a different computer where it was quite happy.

They sent me a Seagate as well and that went in quite happily in the original computer I'm talking about.

There can be compatibility issues.

160999 2006-08-21 22:54:00 I got a 260GB Hard Drive made by Maxtor for a total amount of $87.00. In California. JMobile (4265)
161000 2006-08-22 07:08:00 I have only had one Maxtor in my time, and it broke down on me corrupting data, basically I lost everything.

Like most things first impressions last and I have never bought another one. Seagate and Western Digital are the only HDD manufacturers I buy from now and have never had a problem from either...

Hope that helps. By the way, I reply to these threads that are re-opened for the benefit of people that and currently seeking advice...

So if its of use to anyone.....

161001 2006-08-22 08:13:00 Seagate is the best choice at the moment - performance is just as good as the other brands, they are a similar price to the other manufacturers with a good reputation, and they give you a 5 year warranty on all their drives.

Essentially you are getting an extra 2 years warranty for free when you buy seagate.
