| 161126 | 2003-07-19 07:31:00 | Unless you are a very light user of Outlook Express you may need many floppy disks to back up your email (even using compression). Have a look at FAQ #7 How do I backup my important files which files should I back up? (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) for info on how to do this. | Rod J (451) | ||
| 161127 | 2003-07-19 07:38:00 | Go start-search-files or folders and type in inbox.dbx This will find you where the directory is where they are, then just copy them all to floppy/s. If using XP search, you may not get any results, so go to the search again, but click on the "more advanced options" and tick "search system folders" and "search hidden files and folders" boxes. Then hit the search button. |

| 161128 | 2003-07-19 09:29:00 | What operating system are you using? XP (for instance) has a Files and settings transfer wizard. I wouldn't recommend using floppies anyway. More info about what you are trying to do etc may help. Is this "other PC" one you own? If so then it may be viable to pull the hard drive out of your one you want to transfer from and put it in the other as a slave. If you don't own the "other PC" then I'm sure you won't be thanked for putting them on mine!!! :-) |

I am transferring from my XP desktop to my > XP laptop. Obviously floppies are out. Thank you > too. Thanks for your thanks. OK.... XP desktop to XP laptop... One thinks that you are packing up files to take with you on the Laptop and you have network cards on both. Have you considered using Briefcase or Synchronise at all. If you are leaving home taking the Laptop and no person is altering files on the Desktop then pack everything using the Briefcase type function. You can store any files you want in the Briefcase and take them with you like the whole of your documents for instance. If people at home may also work on the same files you have taken with you then there may be a problem. Say you have a an Access Database in your Briefcase and you leave home with it. You modify the database while away and someone at home modifies the same database on the desktop. You get home and put the briefcase back on the Desktop which of course may overwrite the modification done while you were away. File sychronise works a little differently in so far as you can keep both modified files or just one of them. Just something for you to consider. |
