161723 2003-07-21 05:26:00 From a very new user to a LCD screen - to all you old hands - please can someone help me.

I have happily adjusted brightness and contrast on my old CRT screen to reduce glare. When I try to do this on my new swanky beastie I'm all lost and the 'leaflet' enclosed was far from informative (nows theres an unusual phenomenon!) (Futura Color TFT-LCD Monitor 17inch)

I've pushed the buttons on contrast and brightness so they appear somewhat less overpowering and the icons have some definition but ...... the writing is less than clear.

And what on earth is the colour temperature do? It did not appear to alter the 'mix' so just reset back to the Auto Adjust.

Many thanks - FURPEOPLE ('mum' to furry beasties)

161724 2003-07-21 06:40:00 All LCD screens that I have seen have an Auto adjust feature that sets everything automatically and most seem to work OK. See if you can find this and try it.

Also, if you have Windows XP, try turning on Clear Type Fonts.
Right-click desktop somewhere then goto Properties - Appearance tab then Effects button. Should be an option there to enable that.

Another thing is make sure your screen resolution is set right for your LCD screen (1024x768 etc). Try a few different ones until you find the one that looks best.

161725 2003-07-21 21:45:00 Thank you for replying - as you have probably gathered I am not a night owl so have only just got your advise.

I've followed your instructions and changed the font to the clear type - and yes I can now see the fully formed characters against the white backgrounds. Previously they appeared thin and not fully formed - with the greyed menu items dissappearing completely.

I have used the 'auto button - but so far I seem to have to do this every time I turn on the machine - but as I was trying to 'fix' the font appearance this is probably why it was not taking!

Many thanks

XP and win2000 ms article 820286 - last reviewed date 5/21/2003

820286 ( . microsoft . com/default . aspx?scid=kb;en-us;820286" target="_blank">support . microsoft . com)

I was still not satisfied with the resolution - the lighter font colours that some (including the govt sites insist on using to emphasise - NOT) made these articles unreadable .

This Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - refers the users to change the dpi (dots per inch) mine was previously at 96 and now at 120 - and now I can read these screens .
Full instructions are on the article, which also refers to 'Native support for high-DPI monitors will be included in the next major operating system release from Microsoft . ' as your loaded XP version may not automatically support this - thankfully mine did .
