2003-07-20 00:53:00 | microsoft used this to speed up the loading time of media player, so why not use it for other programs! i found this little tweak to be very effective: add /prefetch:1 to the end of certain application target boxes and it should dramatically reduce the opening time . eg . outlook express is the program i've seen most difference in . here is what the target box should look like: "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn . exe" /prefetch:1

It takes note of what programs you are using and the next time you go to use that program it opens a bit quicker. Anyone using Win XP after a format would notice how slowly it seems to run for a few days until the programs have been "loaded" into the prefetch. | tommy (2826) | ||
2003-07-20 04:59:00 | windows xp . the prefetch code is currently only found in windows media player . try adding in in the target box of a outlook express shortcut . unless you have a very fast computer already, i'm sure you will notice a large increase in speed . you will find that after using XP some time, the prefetch folder can get full of rarely used or obsolete links which can slow down your computer noticeably . so i recommend you browse to C(system drive): /windows/prefetch, delete all files every few weeks or a month .

2003-07-20 05:02:00 | im not sure how many programs you can assign, and it only works for some programs. if its incompatible with a program a warning message will come up. | Craig (448) | |
2003-07-20 06:29:00 | You are right, it does work. Outlook Express opens like a rocket with that Prefetch added to the shortcut. Thanks for that. | tommy (2826) | |
2003-07-20 07:23:00 | hi thanks for that its sweet as. If you wanna also increase the speed of opening files you could increase your RAM!?
