| 161549 | 2003-07-22 12:39:00 | But you lot a forgetting to take into account that Arthur Dent and all humans were not part of the original computer program. They are descended from the aliens that crashed on the planet, you know the hairdressers, phone cleaners and guys who live in bath tubs. So Arthur Dent couldn't possibly have the knowledge in his head so the answer is still unknown as those ape men were wiped out by the hair dressers. |

I was thinking about base-10, coming from our digital existence (that is, stemming from our 10 human digits), and extrapolating to base-13, coming from a 13-digit (potentially) golgafrinchan-based existence. I'm not surprised I made no sense - I've been operating on half a brain all day (which is about twice what I normally use...) If I knew what I was on about, I'd be making money from it... |

| 161552 | 2003-07-23 01:35:00 | 42 - DEFINITELY. I have lived my (fairly long) life based upon 42 and I could not cope if that number was not correct. Besides, from memory here as my book is at home and I am at work (42 minutes away by ordinary train), the compendium edition is subtitled " a trilogy in 4 parts". As an aside - perhaps that is the reason that my 19 minute express train in the morning is currently taking 42 minutes??!!!!!! Chris |

| 161553 | 2003-07-23 01:48:00 | Gödel proved that matahematics isn't complete. So the wonder is that we can do arithmetic. Bertrand Russell was challenged by another philospher ("B") to prove that B was the Pope, given that 2+2=5. Easy, subtract 2 from each side, giving 2=3. Subtract 1 from each side giving 1=2. B plus the Pope = 2, therefore B= the Pope. Gödel died young, weighing 30 kg, of malunutrition, after having delusions that he was being poisoned by "enemies". Bertrand Russell lived to a ripe and randy old age. :D |
