| 161969 | 2003-07-22 05:35:00 | Hi . I have a Tosh Satellite 2540XCDT laptop that runs Win98 . I had a problem with my PCMCIA modem the other day and Godfather kindly suggested I should cold-boot, but that didn't work . Uninstall the drivers and reinstall? Nope . Remove drivers from the Device Manager and then cold boot, then reinstall? Nope . But it wasn't the modem . I have another one that I tried and which also didn't work . Then a computer savvy friend came over and tried to help . He got the drivers installed, but while checking settings discovered that the driver had reassigned itself to a different COM port! Now, even my USB doesn't work . . . says the COM port is not reading the device I'm using . Any idea about what to do when your COM ports are struck by a hoolie? And no, it's not a virus . I only run AVG, but it's always kept me safe before . . . . Thanks, Jandy |
