161932 2003-07-22 05:06:00 I want to set up a home network between a machine running Windows98 and Windows XP. I have the Win98 network part set up fine, however when I run the Network Setup Wizard in Win XP it comes up that the Network Connection is disconnected. I have tried rebooting with the cables connected, removing the driver and reinstalling but nothing.
How can I get the connection to connect

Can someone help

161934 2003-07-22 05:29:00 How have you got the 2 PC's hooked up?
Do you have a hub and the 2 PC's cabled to that or just one cable going between the PC's?

If only one cable you need to make sure that it is a crossover cable.

161935 2003-07-22 05:53:00 Sorry forgot to add that I am using a crossover cable I have tried two different ones, but I don't think it will work unless I get the adapter from disconnected to connected xineohp (3165)
161936 2003-07-22 08:57:00 set youc xp ip address as 192.168.0.1 the subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 then set win 98 as 192.168.0.3 & enter subnet mask 255.255.255.0 then make sure the computer names are different but the same worke group then sirch computer name if you still have problems under run type command hit enter type ipconfig hit enter if on xp type in ping 192.168.0.3 & see it it findes the other computerif it doesn't you have a hardwhere clash make sure you have ipx/spx, netbeui,tcp/ip priputeys actavatedin your network Stick (204)
161937 2003-07-22 11:30:00 Set your Xp IP address as 192.168.0.1. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0.

Then set Win98 as 192.168.0.3 & enter 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask.

Make sure the computer names are different but use the same work group for both. You can then search for the computer name. If you still have problems do this:

Start-> Run
Type: command -> hit enter.
Type: ipconfig -> and hit enter.

If on Xp type in ping 192.168.0.3 & see it it finds the other computer. If it doesn't, you have a hardware clash. Make sure you have ipx/spx, netbeui, and tcp/ip installed and activated in your network.
