161797 2003-07-21 08:41:00 1) I've decided to reinstall windows XP. When i do reinstall it would i also have to reinstall all of my programs and security patches for windows etc?
2) What about if i use the 'update install' option instead?
3) I do not have a bootable version of the Windows XP install CD so i can't do a clean format unless i waste time and install Win 98 and then upgrade from there?

What would be the best option?

161798 2003-07-21 10:35:00 How come you don't have a bootable version of Xp??

A bootable version is required to reinstall I believe. You can make it bootable however.

Did you want to do a repair of windows Xp, or a full new install? If you do a repair when the cd boots up your programs etc will still work, but you will lose any microsoft updates.

If you do a full install, by formatting you will most likely lose everything, and have to reinstall the programs.

161799 2003-07-21 11:05:00 It may be your PC that's no booting into the CD. Try making the Install Floppies.

And as for Update Install.. If you've already got XP, then begin install and choose Repair, it wont be Update :-)

Formatting will lose the lot, but repairing it will not :-)
