| 161993 | 2003-07-23 02:06:00 | Kartoo (www.kartoo.com) is worth a look. Its great differentiating features are its graphical format (sites appear as blobs with size denoting perceived relevance and connecting lines labelled with search terms) and the fact that as it's finding sites in line with your original search terms, it locates other words that appear commonly on the sites it finds. "Shakespeare+Hamlet" gets you "prince" "essay" "course" "film" "Denmark" etc; terms that may not have occurred to you as ways to further refine your search. A table at the side of the page lets you add and subtract these other terms as appropriate, with a click. It's fairly talented at finding appropriate sites with not too many total irrelevancies, but with some interesting lateral leaps of logic. I can't pretend I use it regularly, but worth a peek for interest's sake, and you may get hooked, if that's the way you think. I do 90% of my searches on Google, and find AltaVista, an earlier favourite, now throws up too many commercial offerings that look to have either paid for or skilfully engineered, their place on the list. | 161995 | 2003-07-23 02:47:00 | Whoaaaoohh - enough already. I also use Engines2go.com which has about 10 search engines which each open a browser - if you tick each box. Info overload but helpful if you have the time. My original favourite was Altavista but Google seems best currently. Will check out your suggestions. Thanks everybody. |
