161771 2003-07-21 08:03:00 Things could be alot easier if pressf1 had an option where you could enter your PC specs when signing or at any time and when you click on someones user name it list their computer info.

Also pressf1 needs a picture hoster. How ever this could be hard because it would need alot of space wouldn't it and people could abuse it. What do you think.

[btw if anyone needs to host an image use http://pressf1shared.tripod.com. pressf1shared is the user name and 123456 is the password. Please do not abuse it. Whats the point.]

It has one: ImageF1 - NZ's Unofficial PC World Image-upload facility (sal.neoburn.net)

161774 2003-07-21 08:46:00 i was thinking..
why not have something somewhere..to say how many users are logged in..so we know..
like maybe right now theres 44 users...at the bottom or top of page it'd say "44 users logged in and 3 guests"
it'd be cool..we could sometime see what parts of the days has most people..and also to see how many nutcases are on at 1am or 3am..

This is a good idea hamstar, but this point has been raised before and deemed unpractical. A computer newbie often has no idea what their computer specifications are (and what the terminology means), and it may make them relunctant to post if they felt all those details are required. Sometimes only the software details are needed so how much RAM and what type of video card you have is not relevant - you can see how this would add confusion to the post. More PC-savy posters tend to list the relevant information anyway. Also, some people have more than one PC, so which PC details should you have on file?

If required information is missing, it is easier to ask for it and provide the instructions on how to find out if you judge that necessary from their experience level.

161776 2003-07-21 08:57:00 why cant it be done..optional..
like when u sign up..u get asked questions...ensure that its known to be optional..
like sometimes theres optional questions in signup processes...
i ingore them..and after time when feeling more comfortable with the situation..like if this asked for my phone number...right at the start i'd refuse for sure...but now..i mite put it on but i'm deaf so its pointless to anyway...same for email address..we get a choice of hidden or shown..so at the start i'd hide it but now..i seem to feel comfty letting u know my address...

so optional stuff about computers could be a idea?
or just have
"what type of operating system do u have"
and ask "do you have more than 1 pc"
if "yes" ask what os is the majority of those running on...
and ask what brand of computer..like is it HP or .packardbell...custom?
and so on...
