162424 2003-07-23 11:27:00 Hi Team

I posted for favoured HDD models a week or so ago because I thought my HDD was dying (made noises at switch on and needed reset button to get going) but now I am not sure what is going on.

System is a P111 550 on Intel SR440BX MB, 512MB RAM and Quantum Fireball lct20 20GB HDD primary drive C: & E: and a second QFB 20GB as D: & F:. OS is Win 2000.

On switch-on the noise is currently not present (it has always been a bit intermittent) but all that appears on screen is a flashing cursor in the top left corner. That appears as soon as the monitor warms up. There is no HDD activity & no POST display on screen.

If I press the reset switch a normal boot process follows and everything works OK.

Any ideas on where I should start looking?

Cheers

162425 2003-07-23 11:33:00 Sounds like a Power_Good signal may be missing from the PSU (or not recognised by the Motherboard) causing a system halt until a reset.

Or its all a ploy so you have an excuse to buy a new system, and Mrs T will not be convinced until she sees the earnest attempts to fix it via this forum.

I'll check the Power Good signal, and now that you mention it, I remember reading the same advice offered recently to another poster. :8}

Cheers

[b][pre]*cough* :8} Mrs T is not aware of this Forum,
and as she is not at all enamoured of computers, she
would probably spifflicate me if she knew what I get
up to here, especially WFTWE. No sense of yuma at
all when it comes to matters computing I'm afraid,
but an absolute gem in all other respects :D
