| 162086 | 2003-07-22 10:41:00 | I'm Running XP and I wan't to change my system sound for things like the start-up sound. However, I click on the tab in the sounds and sudio properties thing in the control panel and it pops up with an error saying "An exception occured while trying to run "shell32.dll,Controll_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\System32\MMSYS.CPL",@0" Would someone please help me out as I have no idea where to start looking to fix it. |

Can you change sound schemes at the top? (possibly not from what you say) Is the mmsys.cpl file in that directory? (mine is 546kb in size). good luck robo. |

Click the tools tab, and click the 'check now' button. follow the wizard, check that there is a tick in the box that asks scandisk to fix errors automatically. after the wizard, restart the computer, it takes, about 10 to 15 minutes to complete the scan. you might also try restoring to a different point. good luck, Robby |

Click OK That at least may indicate whether the file is corrupt or not if it doesnt work. If no go then try using Add/Remove programs to uninstall the sounds (multuimedia) then re-installing. You could also try copying the mmsys.cpl file from someone else who has Xp (not sure if Home vs Professional is different) and replace your existing file. Back up your existing file first though, just in case. Good luck. |
