162295 2003-07-24 12:24:00 Have you installed something already?? I'm not sure what you downloaded, but if it plays your java games fine, then keep it. Test it. What did it say it was installing when you ran the file?

If you've got something else it may pay to uninstall, and then download what I linked to.

162296 2003-07-24 12:31:00 Hi Powa

Yes i downloaded from a link metla gave in one of the threads. It comes up on my desktop as Java Web Start but when I go into yahoo games its very slow loading and the mouse pointer is very shaky.

162298 2003-07-24 12:37:00 Ahh I think thats the right program for the job.

I'm not sure how the games actually work, sounds like its running extra slow though. Is it still downloading when you are playing?

I guess you could try turning off some programs that are running in the background. Failing that, the java might just be slow which we can't do anything about.

162302 2003-07-24 12:46:00 Arrrgh yea it looks like you -have- downloaded the wrong thing. To sum up: Ladybug, uninstall the java web start u have already downloaded. (Control panel - add/remove programs).

Then use my link or metla's very latest link to download the software.

All done!

Very confusing!!!

162303 2003-07-24 13:12:00 If you haven't had the Java problem then there is a fair chance that you have it already.

I KNOW that my version of Win XP doesn't have Java on the install CDRom. Ages ago when I first installed Win XP and visited a Java type web site I was prompted to install the Java Virtual Machine which I did. Several reformats later and after each one I had the same prompt and the same download except I was able to save Java on another partition and install from there as THIS Java came from Sun.

After that Microsoft came up with SP1 for WinXP which INCLUDED Java...
That's the original SP1 that was. If you download SP1 NOW then it won't include Java.

If I ever have to reformat the C: drive and start from scratch then I will boot off my WinXP Pro disk and install XP... Check devices and install all those. The install the Win XP SP1 which includes Java in MY edition.

My better answer is what I have now... An image of a complete re-install using Ghost on a separate removable hard drive after installing Motherboard drivers, other hardware and all the software I can't do without.

162304 2003-07-24 13:22:00 thanxs again Elephant, and yes it would be better if i had something like ghost on my machine or even a second drive to save to, but beyond my means just now, experience and $$ wise.

and yes i think i have it (Java) have not bothered to check, off to sleep now as school / lectures again tomorow and must rest the brain for the next onslaught of information levels.... LOL
