162285 2003-07-24 09:02:00 i stand corrected, did not realise that a install would not have it replaced as back to original when got computer, why is this?

thought when you did reinstalls that it went back to new fresh puter like when first bought?
is this not so for all components like that?

must remember that for next time.

Because java isn't installed with xp,its loaded on the first time that you surf to a site that requires it.

With the release of xp Microsoft makes ie6 look for the Microsoft version to install, and now they aren’t allowed to distribute their version you end up in a dead end, pointed to a download that doesn't exist.

If Ms were a bit fairer they would point people to the sun.com download but choose to let people hang instead.

Hope you can follow that, I realise i don’t put stuff across very well sometimes……….

162288 2003-07-24 10:55:00 Hi Metla

Thanks have downloaded this from the www.java site you gave (the 2nd thread). Its called Java Web Start - this is right isnt it? There are a couple of problems though. When Im in the game site it is very slow to load the page and also the mouse pointer is very shaky. Is there a way to change these problems?

Thanks again Ladybug

We have a number of different versions of XP like Pro and Home for example . Some have Java and some don't .
Microsoft and Sun have been having a lawsuit for some time now . The powers that be in AMERICA ( Laws ) decided that Microsoft couldn't put their Java into the O/S so they didn't at one stage,

I bought WinXP Pro at the time when Java wasn't there in the O/S and the first time I went to a web site that was Java enabled I had to download the Java Virtual Machine from the MS site .

Later I updated my Win XP Pro with SP1 which INCLUDED Java .

I have no idea what OEM versions of XP include or don't .

OEM with a recovery type disk will put you back to square one .
Maybe Java . . . . Maybe not . . .
Depends on where you bought it . . . How long ago . . . . . Using Windows update . . . .

If you had Java in the first place and do the recovery bit then you will still have it .

If you downloaded Java AFTER your computer was delivered and do a recovery trhen you won't have it unless you downladed Java and saved it so you can re-install .

I hope I have made myself clear .

162291 2003-07-24 12:09:00 I should also say that the NEW SP1 from Microsoft does NOT include Java.

My advice is to get it when you can from Sun if you find you need it.

Eeeeeerrrrrrrrkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!

How do we keep up?
