163148 2003-07-27 04:17:00 Hey

How do I find out without opening the computer if I have a network card?

I looked at the back near the AGP slots, etc but see nothing...But there are some "interesting" looking plugs around..Could the card be intergrated?

Thanks

163149 2003-07-27 04:24:00 Yes, you can tell. Yes they are often built onto the motherboard.

Try Settings/Control Panel/ Hardware Manager .

On the back look for a RJ45 socket (American telephone ... must have 8 conductors --- a 6 position socket with only 2 conductors is a modem one) .

if you tell us what brand and what model mother board you have we can tell you if you have an integrated NIC (Network Interface Card)

163154 2003-07-27 05:46:00 If you have a network card then you can tell by looking on the back of the computer for a ply that looks like a large Phone jack, there will also be either 2 or three lights beside it (usually green) That is most probably your network card or onboard network. It you can't see that anywhere then you probably don't have one. Odin (227)
163155 2003-07-27 06:09:00 Looking at the Compaq Presario S3120AN specifications, it states that you should have Integrated 10/100Base-T Ethernet NIC.

Compaq Presario S3120AN (h50025.www5.hp.com) specifications.

You may find that the NIC is currently disabled. Looking in Device Manager in XP, under Network Adapters you should find the onboard device listed. Double clicking on it will show its current status (enabled/disabled).

163156 2003-07-27 09:22:00 Try this, go to Start > Run and then type in cmd. A DOS window should open. Type in Ping 127.0.0.1 This is a Network card loopback test. If you get a reply then you have a functioning network card. sinndisco (4059)
163157 2003-07-27 11:41:00 Polk. Hi there. I wanted to know what was in my computer. Susan B suggested I try a programme called Aida32 & Thomas suggested Belarc. Try Google to get them. I used Aida on both our XP & 98se. Real neat... PJ Poppa John (284)
