2003-07-26 01:22:00 | When I plug this unit into my Windoxs XP computer USB connection(and insert a memeory stick) it appears to detect it and set it up for use. It does not show on the "devices with removable storage" area until I rebooted and it was going fine (yesterday) However today things are not so happy. When I turned on the computer this morning it stalls on setting up, when I pull out the cord into the USB port and restart its happy to carry on. So then I plug it in again - it redetects and says its setting up things and its ready to use - but still not visible in My Computer - restart and the computer stalls during its set up process again. And so it goes on Any ideas about where to look next? Thanks

2003-07-26 02:28:00 | Think I have solved this one myself - just through mucking around with it. It appears to act a bit like a floppy drive and doesn't like the stick in the drive when it starts up. Hopefully it will settle down now!!

2003-07-26 03:14:00 | USB is a "standard" . :_| Warning bells ring . Manufacturers interpret standards . What one thinks is obvious, another doesn't . Today I went to use my Compact Flash . It uses a printer port connector, and a passthrough PS/2 connector for power . :D So that's two standards to work with . I tried to save time by doing it "hot" . Of course it didn't work, and needed a reboot . The answer to USB seems to be trying various sequences until you find one that works . I suspect you'll get away with leaving it plugged in, but with no card in . But when you have a card in and have finished using it, try right clicking on it and looking for an "Eject" option . Use it before removing the stick . If there isn't such an option, try the Properties . . . there might be a "Stop" button to click (as there is for the PC Card device I use with a Compact Flash adaptor) . If there's an appropriate button, make a shortcut on your desktop .

2003-07-26 04:02:00 | Thanks for your reply Graham I thought I had it sorted but once again I'm back to not being able to view the removable drive icon. It gives me a clunking type PC noise when I insert a disk - a very quick glance at an hourglass then nothing. I'll give it another round and then will be able to see if I need to eject the disk properly instead of just pulling it straight out. What a hassle. I want this to be a straight forward process so that others can use it to view their memory sticks without the camera as we share the camera around.

2003-07-26 04:21:00 | View Refresh isn't helping!! About an hour ago when I did have it showing up......all I had to do was put in the stick and the icon would appear in My computer under "removable storage". When I flicked out the disk it disappeared. Simple! But of course that was some time ago in the process....now I can't do anything. And yes "straightforward" is the aim! PC can be like that especially if the users know what the steps are to getting it in place.
