Or, the heretical view. A Kiwi was the key link in the act of espionage (or at least questionable dealing with intellectual property) that allowed Crick & Watson to proceed to their discovery on the strength of the joint research of Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin - who never got her deserved share of the Nobel Prize.

162903 2003-07-27 00:08:00 Well Argus, it was the way of things in those days, women seldom got the recognition they deserved. They were lucky even to get a mention in a paper let alone co-authorship.

Reminds me of my old mate Alastair Cameron who was the first person to get solutions to the partial differential equations or Reynolds Equations for oil lubricated journal bearings using hand 'relaxation' methods and pencil and paper, no computers available then for common use.

In actual fact it was Mrs Wood who did all the work, but at least she was a co-author.

Getting back to those strange games, there is all this talk of flyers.

That is what I've always assumed they were trying to do. Douglas Adams in Hitch Hikers Guide describes a method of learning to fly by throwing yourself at the ground, and if you succeed in missing, then you have learnt to fly.

Judging by the amount of time and effort spent throwing themselves at the ground (what an odd thing to do), and grovelling on the ground, they dont really show much sign of learning to fly. :)
