163386 2003-07-28 03:08:00 Hi to all Tech Heads!
I am running Win 2000 and have just installed the final version 6 of MSN Messenger. Does anyone know how to get the insidious beast out of Outlook Express. It has installed all my contacts with my e-mail addresses and starts up every time you open Outlook Express.
Thanks to one and all,
TonyS.

163387 2003-07-28 03:24:00 I thought it was only Windows Messenger that worked with O . E?

Anyway, to stop it starting up when you open O . E:
Tools > options . Under the general tab, *de-select* the box next to "Automatically log onto Windows Messenger .

If it is already de-selected, then I don't know how to disable MSN messenger from loading .

Don't know about stopping the contacts appearing in your address book .

Sorry it's not much help .

I do not think you can do that( & that happens with any verson of MSN messenger), unless you uninstall MSN messenger, because MSN messenger is part of Outlook Express .

I hope that makes sense & Hope this helps .

163390 2003-07-28 04:11:00 thats strange, because my MSN 6 does not start up when I open O . E . And the contacts certainly aren't in my address book!

I only had that annoying problem with Windows messenger . That's why i stopped using it .

MSN 6 is better than Win Mesenger

163391 2003-07-28 04:11:00 Thanks for trying guys, but have done all of the above to no avail. Have had several versions of msn for years, and the is the first one to get its hooks into Outlook. Tony S. (450)
163392 2003-07-28 05:56:00 I did it. Its installed in program files/msn messenger or something.
just change the folder name, and then OE wont find it.

163393 2003-07-28 06:04:00 i am using outlook express myself
and msn 6 final version is on my computer too
and it never merged with eachother..
maybe because i had OE closed during installing...
so u could try closing alllll ur windows programs..everything thats running..and install it again..but of course..uninstall it first..

163394 2003-07-28 06:13:00 You could uninstall msngr and use an alternitive such as trillian (which connects to the msngr service) :
