| 163190 | 2003-07-27 05:47:00 | I want to replace my 5 year old HP Scanjet 5P scanner, as my TextBridge OCR program that I use with it will not run on my new XP Pro system. I hope that a scanner about $300 would suit my purpose. I only use the scanner occasionally and medium quality resolution would do for pictures, but quality OCR is a must. I do not want to spend money on TextBridge when I may get a new USB scanner with good OCR for an equivalent price. My desktop PC is 1 MHz, 512 MB RAM and running sweetly. What is your recommendation? Do I need to spend more than this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Dumb-bell. |

TextBridge is/was considered pretty much the best at the job and I would say that it is the "lite" version that came with your current scanner, as these programs normally are. If your current scanner does what you want it to do I would look at upgrading the TextBridge program to one that is compatible with Win XP. If that still does not appeal I would be checking which scanners bundle TextBridge with them (if any do) and look at how they perform. |

| 163195 | 2003-07-28 09:44:00 | The DIAMOND VIEW DV650U Flatbed Scanner has been recognized as a classy scanner, especially good in OCR, AND CHEAP, in an unnamed Aussie publication. See Here: <www.bdt.co.nz Its supposed to be pretty plain but does the business. Sold under the Mitsubishi brand in Aus. |
