2003-07-31 13:07:00 | Howdy Chill, All I can say is that the formatting looks excellent! :) And that about raps it up from me :) It seriosly looks like you will need to wait for the Adios ADK iso to come back online. I'll even download it for you if that helps :D The problem is that it looks to me that they have created most of the file system as a tar ball. For you to add a program you would need to extract the .tgz extensions and then add the program to the extracted files and then recreate the tar ball. I'm starting to think that altering the games config file will be a lot easier :8}

2003-08-01 06:49:00 | Okay.. Hmm.. Could be an interesting mission then.. Still, Im not one to give up easily, but we'll see. I also have DSL (www.damnsmalllinux.org iirc), and I could always punch for that, as its based on Knoppix.. is only 50MB Big, and I can still extract the UT2K3_Demo file and have the lot still fit on a 200MB Mini-CDR! It's also not tar.gz'd, so that might make life a little easier. I'll take a looksie when I get home, and will get back to you with progress in the morning, but Im going to be finishing off setting up LFS tonight... Chapter 6 ;-) Many thanks, and its good to know you enjoy a good brain teaser when they come along like this ;-) Cheers Chill.

2003-08-01 13:43:00 | Okay.. Thought I'd give DSL a say in the matter here, and this is what I get: [root@AMD1700 root]# dd if=/mnt/cdrom/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX of=/var/KNOPPIX 93327+1 records in 93327+1 records out [root@AMD1700 root]# KNOPPIX is the only file that's in there it could possibly be, coz its 49 odd MB and the rest are nowhere near that size! Now, what the heck do I do with that file? lol, I am feeling very n00b tonight, having an error stop me with LFS.. Im reading through an interesting site: www.linuxgazette.com Ive got Knoppix 3.1, Adios, and DSL.. so Im not too fussed which I use... I WILL get it sorted... I hope ;-) Here's to hoping I get some sleep tonight :p Thanks Chill.

2003-08-01 21:49:00 | Howdy Chill, What GUI are you using? I was thinking that you can "open" tarred packages when using Konqueror. This basically allows you access to the files contained in the tarball without really untarring :) Your original idea was merely to alter the write permissions on /usr and you might well be able to do the adjustment from here. This would save the need to create your own bootable distro though ;) I quite liked the link that mentioned that this was the way to get patches for the distro. With them mentioning that you need 3GB free space the -Rp switch must be to extract and untar the files. All rather interesting and Knoppix/Debian too....... :D I'll have to have a look at the other links to see how you include a new program. I had started to think that the idea might have been to find a small hard drive and load linux on there and after that copy the entire disk to the mastering computer so that you can recreate a CD :D Must be an easier way than that so off to do some reading :)

2003-08-01 22:29:00 | Ah Ha, It's amazing how much clearer things become after reading the How To (www.knoppix.net) or perhaps it's due to the fact that it's daylight now ?:| So when you copy the knoppix to the hard drive it creates it in a chrooted enviroment. Remove the Open Office files (seems to be the one everyone uses) and then copy the UT demo into the chroot jail and then install. :D Once installed then you just need to remake the iso ;) Excellent googling :D

2003-08-02 03:01:00 | > a few hundred years......... See here: Lycoris Desktop/LX (http://www.lycoris.com) JAMD (www.jamd-linux.com) Yoper (http://www.yoper.com) And with the use of Linux, and this (http://www.vmware.com) application, I could also get a Windows install onto a bootable CD! :-)

2003-08-05 09:36:00 | Me again... Ive been making some progress with research, and I think Im getting there... I found Puppy Linux: www.goosee.com and Eagle Linux: www.distrowatch.com Im just reading the Eagle Linux readme's etc now :-) Anyways, I was thinking that if you're keen to help out, rather than making a ton of posts on here, would you be able to give me a bell: Email/MSN: Chilling_Silence[at]orcon[dot]net[dot]nz or ICQ: 141557013 That'd be much appreciated.. I think I still need a bit more of a kick in the right direction when it comes to it, but Im getting there :-) Cheers Chill.
