163504 2003-07-28 12:47:00 I have four machines to network - three are currently working fine on a 10base2 system with 10mbs cards. I'm adding a new XP machine with a 100mbs card and considering converting to 10baseT.

Will all my cards need to be the same speed for the network to work?

I have a mixture of 10 and 10/100, they all operate fine at 10.

If your other machines have combo cards (BNC and RJ45 connectors), you may wish to invest in a switch and some TP cabling. The switch will handle both the 10Mbps and 100MBps speeds (converting the data speeds between ports). With such a setup, you can easily improve the network transfer speed of any of the other 3 machines by replacing the NIC with a 100Mbps card.
