1319362 2012-12-20 10:00:00 I've been thinking about getting on the Windows 8 boat with the $20 offer but I'm a bit wary of net usage. When you buy this do you get a windows 8 key or a key that gives you access to the updater? Will I be able to download an iso of Windows 8 when it suits me and use the $20 key?

Thanks in advance.

1319363 2012-12-20 11:07:00 You fill in the info on the $20 offer website and you'll get an email with a coupon code and a link to download the Windows 8 Upgrade advisor.
Download and run it and go through the options, you'll get to the page where you'll have to enter in your credit card details and there you can enter in the coupon code to drop the price from $49.99 to $19.99.
Once you've paid you'll get another email with the Windows 8 Pro product key.
Keep going through the upgrade advisor and you'll get the option to install Win8 later and you can then create an ISO, create a DVD or create a USB key.

1319366 2012-12-21 02:34:00 Spend the $20 on a pack of CD-Rs and get downloading some Linux distros  Agent_24 (57)

A $20 usb stick will do the same and can be used again and again

1319368 2012-12-21 08:23:00 True, but then you'd have to re-write it every time instead of just swapping discs Agent_24 (57)
1319369 2012-12-21 10:56:00 I had the misfortune of buying a PC with Windows 8. It nearly drove me mad and wasn't compatible with a lot of my software. The interface is like a puzzle, the colours suitable for a children's kindergarten. Crap! Installed Windows 7. I would not have Windows 8 as a gift! mzee (3324)
1319370 2012-12-21 11:39:00 Eh I pretty much *never* see the start screen whatever. If you think of it like Windows 7 with a full-screen start menu, it's not so bad :p Chilling_Silence (9)
1319371 2012-12-21 19:29:00 If Win8 is $20, will they be offering Win ME at $40? R2x1 (4628)
