1318945 2012-12-18 08:22:00 Hi all,
So I'm getting Need for Speed Most wanted for PC for Christmas.
Should I get a gamepad controller or should I just use the keyboard? What do you prefer?
And if I do decide to get a gamepad controller, do they work with Need for speed? Which one would you recommend? (preferably $50-under but if I have to then I'll stretch a few dollars)
Thanks guys!

1318946 2012-12-18 21:59:00 Keyboard > Controller in my opinion, but that's just because I've been playing racing games long before any decent gamepads existed for the pc/ones worth buying so I've used my keyboard for racing games for my whole life. If you do decide on a gamepad as opposed to a keyboard don't buy a Razer Onza. Apart from the fact they are useless for racing games because the triggers have no depth but they have terrible build quality. I've had 2 break on me within a month (I think I'll just ask for my money back when I go to return it tbh). icow (15313)
1318947 2012-12-18 22:00:00 Controller all the way, driving with a keyboard is horrible. Even better for the serious driving enthusiats is the wheel and pedal combos.
I have a logitech controller that looks and feels exactly like a PS2 controller that I like and also an XBOX 360 controller for the PC (some versions like this one are for both PC and XBOX) because in one of their most annoying moves microsoft make a lot of the "games for windows" titles only compatible with these controllers and nothing else (it pisses me off but it works because I bought one).

1318948 2012-12-19 01:24:00 Well I'm getting a gamepad. Will the Saitek P380 work with Need for speed most wanted 2012 on windows 7? According to microsoft the controller works with windows 7 but other sites say opposite, and if it does; will it work with the game itself? Nikit07 (16761)
1318949 2012-12-19 01:25:00 Or which other controller should I get and where? (wired please) Nikit07 (16761)
1318950 2012-12-19 01:28:00 will the Logitech F310 GamePad work? Nikit07 (16761)
1318951 2012-12-19 03:53:00 Or xbox controller is the way to go? Nikit07 (16761)
1318952 2012-12-19 07:09:00 Well, I am happy with a kb BUT it's not about me because I'm not getting NFS :p!

Any controller *should* be compatible (as in, every controller will work on windows and provide valid inputs) however the problem is will the game itself support it . Unfortunately that's a question google has to answer . There's no point saying "oh all good, just use a program that takes the controller input and translates it to key presses" because that just defeats the whole purpose/benefits gained from using the controller (thumb sticks + throttle response aren't just on/off)

Other than game support the controller should be one that suits your preferences (wired/wireless for example) . You mention a 360 controller? That's fine, both the wireless + wired models work fine on windows (game support though . . . . dunno about that!) however the wireless unit requires a wireless dongle unit to be attached . It all depends on your style and preference . If you play on 360 then the 360 controller could be a good option since you'll know the button layout intimately as well as being able to use the same controller for both platforms . Other than that there's nothing to it . It's just about what works for you in terms of performance/looks and price .

Just to reiterate, there's a 90% chance that any controller will work with windows itself . Drivers etc will be no huge problem . The game itself is where support gets funny since so many games exist as well as so many potential controllers .

This could be of use, . com/pc-controller-support/bravo-gamepad-joystick/xbox-madcatz-logitech-saitek-etc-ns/n/need-for-speed-most-wanted" target="_blank">pinnaclegameprofiler . com not really sure though . Found it with a little googling .

Good luck!

1318953 2012-12-19 07:52:00 Go to the NFS site to see what controllers it supports.
:)

1318954 2012-12-19 10:46:00 Error guy you've given me some helpful info! Thanks! NFS does support (actually recommends) Xbox 360 controllers to be used with PC so I'm gonna go for the wireless one. Trev, it just says it supports keyboard and Xbox 360 controller but according to some forums it supports many others too. Nikit07 (16761)
