163543 2003-07-29 00:55:00 Using MSN Messenger V6.0 with IE 6.0 & Windows XP Home with a DSE Internet Camera + Mic. [ex Dick Smith]
I can see and hear others on Messenger - they can see me but not hear me.
XP and Zone firewalls are turned off
My mic guage next to my image indicates the mic is working
What’s my problem?

163544 2003-07-29 01:14:00 So you're connected and all perfectly fine...
Are you behind a router or a client on a shared Network connection?

Im assuming you've tried re-running the Wizard's!?!

Is it just with one contact that cannot see/hear you, or multiple?

163546 2003-07-29 02:31:00 Hi Billarbob-- save your breath old son- been there done that- I think Godfatrher finally made me see the light!
and a few others!
I eventually installed Yahoo messenger and it works- through firewalls and all.
If you check on my joining Summertime a week or so ago you will see that I even hijacked ( unintentionally) their question.
I would like to send a message to Microsoft but to what address?
In XP site they acknowledge they are having problems but are working on it - yeah? and pigs might fly
cynical :-(
I'll say

163547 2003-07-29 03:14:00 Hi Bllbarbob,

It is obvious to me that you have got Messenger setup correctly there is just a problem with the Mic settings.

If you point to Programs and find Multimedia somewhere within Accessories you should click on "Master Volume" and make sure your line in isnt muted etc.

Hope this helps, let me know if it does.

Cheers.

163549 2003-07-29 10:08:00 Hi Billbarbob,
apologies to better half- my thick old fingers have a habit of getting two keys or caps lock when I don't order them to- or none at all! :-)
Re msn - Summertime had a very similar problem to mine and as I said I really hi jacked summertime's string- anything to get sense !
I had used msn last year to voice chat to several contacts and that faded out a few months later-long before I downloaded msn v6 hoping that would get things going- NOT SO!!!
The fact of the matter is msn in it's entirety is incapable of sending voice- with or with out a firewall - I have Zonealarms and Smithie 38 had another sort of firewall - neither worked- engaged or did engaged,
And there does not appear to have an address to which we can pour our vitriol out to MSN /microsoft
Today I started using windows messenger- and voice goes through - firewall and all- very quietly but audible- it appears with XP install I believe
Yahoo on the other hand works as msn should have -- WWW.Yahoo.com and at the top of the page on the right is "messenger"- download that.
I think that my windows messenger has clearer sound but not by much- but at least Mr Yahoo is doing what one expects!

163551 2003-07-30 00:25:00 Hi billbarbob,

Is the other party using WindowsXP?

I think there is still a problem if only 1 person has W-XP and the other has
W9x even if both have the latest Messenger v6.0?

Another thing to look for is that your modem supports "Full Duplex"whereby both parties can speak at the same time!

Cheers,Kiwitas,;-)
