2003-07-29 10:57:00 | I would be keen to know what others think of putting cheats into games - does this improve the game or otherwise? I am new to games and haven't tried cheats yet and am very nervous about inserting lines into files.

2003-07-29 11:45:00 | It can improve situations for u, but the best thing to do is first play the game properly without cheats clock it and learn to become a master at it. Then muck around by having fun with the cheats. Ifu use the cheats while u play for the first time then it can ruin ur experience. i.e. the game might become to easy for u in godmode.:D So play without cheats. cheers, v.K

2003-07-29 12:16:00 | As vk_dre has mentioned, using cheat codes right off will lessen any challenge the game will have. However, taking a peek at a walkthrough for a game when you are really stumped helps reduce the frustration level when you have spent hours/days going in circles. But, following it step-by-step will reduce your enjoyment of the game so don't be tempted :D

2003-07-29 13:30:00 | Try and play the game without cheats first. If you get stuck then have a peak at a walkthrough to get you going again. Once you have completed the game then feel free to cheat and have fun. This is what I do but I never never ever cheat in on-line games that is just plain lame and pathetic and really pi**es other people off including me :-) | Odin (227) | |
2003-07-29 14:55:00 | Yep cheating in online games a definite no-no. I dislike any cheats in any game really, even single player. From a developers point of view, I can't see why you would spend ages and ages writing game code to make it challenging, and then in another few lines create a cheat code to completely undo your hard work. So pointless plus anyone wanting to play is tempted by the fact that their are cheats for the game. Walkthroughs are fine however, because sometimes people just don't think like you do :) I think the best games that include cheats in them, are something to the effect of Perfect Dark for Nintendo64. Basically, you have to finish the level in under a certain time, or meet so much advanced criteria, that you "earn" the cheat code. Even then that cheat code can only be used on levels you have already passed, and can't be used on levels that you haven't yet clocked. Also if you use a cheat on a level, then you won't get any points added to your score etc. Only used for fun, e.g double rocket launchers :D

2003-07-29 16:06:00 | I fully agree... but lets not forget completing the final level of GoldenEye on N64 in under 1:50 (iirc) will get you the Golden Gun :D | Chilling_Silently (228) | |
2003-07-29 20:37:00 | i use cheats in games when i get up to a point where i can't pass, or if I redo it (a mission etc) over and over, but just miss out, and fail it, i'll use a cheat there, becuase other wise I get sick of teh game, and won't play it. Take GTA for example, great game, really fun, anyway, got up to one mission which i couldn't pass - i redid it about 8 times, then, I had about a 1 week peroid of not even playing the game, so i used a cheat (was a weapon and amromur cheat) to help me get past. and the other time i use cheats is when i've either finished the game, or just want some fun. but i no heaps of people that, while installing the game, they'll be looking up the cheat codes right away, using them right from the start - this is stupid to me (it takes teh fun and challenge out of the game - 2 main reasons of playing games) also - don't use cheats when playing online.

2003-07-29 22:44:00 | Most games also have difficulty levels as well as cheats. As a general rule ... 1) Start in intermediate difficulty level 2) If too hard reduce to easy, or if too easy increase to hard 3) See online startegy guides - often you may be going about things in the wrong way, like in RPG games where using a sorceror to do hand to hand combat etc cheers Parry

2003-07-30 06:05:00 | Just summing up wot the others have said, dont use cheats unless u have to (becos u mite be stuck and cant finish a certain level or mission), u can use guides and walkthroughs as long as u are using them just for the purpose for finding ur way out of mazes and puzzling situations and also finding hidden itmes like in GTA Vice City. So play wot u can and if u feel u cant go any further without gettin a bit of help feel free to use guides & cheats. Remember it all comes down to u the end user of the game, we are all just giving opinions and u must decide wot u want to do. Nothing is completey rite or completey wrong. cheers, v.K
