164265 2003-07-31 10:04:00 just letting every one know that the new work puter is here and its up and running (after a few tense hours...)

and it is so fast compared to the old has been done thing..
much easier to use
and when i work out all the details (spec's ) ill let you know.

it has a phillips flat screen monitor and when its not in use goes to screen saver (normal) and then later on it turns the screen off? or into blank / sleep mode or somthing .... am not use to this, scared me silly the first time i noticed it did this as i thought it was broke... :D

had a few hiccups transferring data and info over but a few help line (callista) calls later its sussed

it is a Artec ? box (pretty blue and fawn) and look quite smart and its a tower not like the last puter flat boxed thing. (so sits under desk nicely now)

have changed a few settings (off the factory desktop etc) and screen savers, but basically have not had a good look, (no fiddling dangerously !!!) at anything major yet.

but we have had one glich we dont know how to rectify...
on our invoice print out page you log in details of our company etc... thats ok but we wanted to add the new logo.. but the current ones size is to big it says to fit the logo box on screen (for printer friendly version)
how can i shrink this?
it's working by pixel size... we have one and its too big.. the size the machine wants is 290 by 90 how can i shrink this?

and otherwise all is good... cross fingers toes and all other things possible :D

so when i find out or remember some more details ill let you know!

thanxs all so much for your help and advice over the past month, much appreciated.

oh and to let you know also it was not a off the shelf one it was a local compter company that supplied it and put it together, from a few specified directions from me and phone company... hope it all turns out roses for this...

164266 2003-07-31 10:15:00 Good to hear the new comp has arrived bettle .

You can resize images with lots of diff programs, one I like is Irfanview (http://www . irfanview . com/) . Its relatively simple to use and will also make thumbnails to pre-determined or custom sizes which may be what you want . What sort of image file is it, jpeg, bmp, ico ? Oh! and Irfanview is free .

164267 2003-07-31 10:26:00 Hi Beetle
Thanks for sharing your excitement over the new system
Look forward to details.
You'll probably be swamped with programs suitable for reducing the image, but I agree with Murray - previous posting.

164268 2003-07-31 10:29:00 how do i use it? i presume you down load it first, and away you go... does it have easy understandable instructions?

and i have the logo in different formats i think, jpg, cymk, rgb ?

but would have to check on this...
my sister in law did them for me (ex photographer / graphic designer)
so she gave me lots of options and i didnt have a clue what she was talking about so she did them for me and is now in London so i cant exactly ask what to do ! LOL

thanxs

164271 2003-08-01 00:06:00 Hi bettle . Download and install Irfanview with whatever plugins you want (it can do diff things with the right plugin like, play media like songs and video too) .

Make a copy of your image(s) you want to resize to a handy location (so you don't bugger the originals, been there done that :)), start Irfanview and click on the little folder icon, top left, to browse to you image files and open it/them . Then go to the Image menu, third from top left, and choose Resize/Resample (the default filters should be fine, have a look to make sure they are set to best quality tho) . Your options are to resize by pixel or %, have a fiddle to get used to it and make sure preserve aspect ration is checked so that the image doesn't stretch or distort .

Once you are satified with the result go to File > Save and say yes to replacing the file or you can save as to not replce the existing file . If you don't like the result just close the image without saving then re-open and it will be back to its original size or hit the space bar to move to the next file in that folder and the back key to return .

To get info on the images size so you have a starting point go to Image > Information, you''l find all the info you'll need there, write it down .

Another way is to go File > Thumbnail and then look at the Options for setting the thumbnail size, when happy then > (in the under the Thumbnail File menu (tope left of thumnail window) choose > Save Seleted Selected Thumbs as Single Image and a file like motel map_t . jpg will be produced . You can batch resize, thumbnail or convert too if you have lots of images you want to chane but, I'll leave that for now unless you want to know how now .

BTW, when setting up Irfanview, don't let it associate all grahics file types if you don't want it to, if you do Irfanview will open, for eg, all JPEG files instead of IE or whatever you browser is .

HTH Cheers Murray P

164274 2003-08-01 05:51:00 Hmmm I got it to view ok - must have been my Netscape that didn't recognise the naming convention. Anyway, changes made and returned. Greg S (201)
