| 164251 | 2003-07-31 09:50:00 | I have downloaded the latest update & ran the Scan. I got 15 Hits. Under Vendor they were mostly Hotbar & Tracking Company. Under Category they were all Data Miner. I think I undestand what that means & implies. Can someone explain more fully. Thanks PJ |

Thanks PJ Powerful software and the Web give marketers and pols access to plenty of useful data about you The above is just a line from News Week found on Google a few minutes ago! But basically,90%+ of the sites you go to on the Web,plant cookies or bugs in your system so that they know how often you re-visit that site and can get a routine where you surf to and from. Basically "digging-into"!"MINING" your data! More sofisticated software log every keystroke you make so making it easy to get your Credit-Card#,Bank details and your misstresses address? If you really want to see how many "BUGS" that are planted every time you go to the likes of PressF1,etc.,download Bugnostic!(that you will find on Google.) You will be glad to turn it off after a couple of days! For a broader coverage,just type Data Miners into Google! Cheers,Kiwitas,;-) |

| 164254 | 2003-07-31 10:56:00 | delete the lot and run spybot as well | kiwibeat (304) | ||
| 164255 | 2003-07-31 11:33:00 | kiwibeat, Check & delete about once a week. Had a look at Spybot!! Puzzled!! Says it can get into conflict with AdAware. Also by deleting "cookies" one may not be able to access sites (something like that). And "use at your own risk". Is this all as bad as it sounds??? PJ | Poppa John (284) | ||

If you have something quarantined in AdAware,Spybot might find it? A lot of people use them both as once upon a time their lists of Spyware was wider apart and depended a bit on sponsorship as to what was or wasn't spyware?,Of late,(in my experience) they are much closer together to the extent that over last couple of months,Spybot has only found 1 bit of scunge-ware that AdAware missed! Of course,a lot depends on where you surf to!Since the new A/W was released,I have scanned 62 times for 65 items removed and am on Net around 250 hrs a month,surfing/searching! So PJ,for the little time that they both take to scan for the bogies one picks up,by all means use the 2 and help to keep your rig running as fast as it can! Cheers,Kiwitas,;-) |

| 164257 | 2003-07-31 12:16:00 | Yeah, I run both as well with no conflicts/problems. Haven't had any problems either from it's cookie crunching. I have only heard of one thing and that is it will stop Kazaa working, but will not affect Kazza Lite. :)) If you do a ton of surfing, like me, I also utilise another program called SpywareBlaster. This is a far more extensive utility like Spybot's Immunize. Available from here (http://www.wilderssecurity.net) |
