164046 2003-07-30 23:50:00 Hi Team

I just tried the the NZ dsl speed test (www.nzdsl.co.nz/speedtest as reported on P54 August PCW) but instead of a test result I get the test page of data displayed. I got the same result from another speed test site (www.ce3000.com/connTest1.asp) that used to work OK. This happens with both my W98 and W2K boxes for nzdsl but only on W98 for ce3000.

There is nothing that I could see listed about compatible browsers on nzdsl but ce3000 says IE5.0 is OK. I am using slightly different versions of IE5.0 on each computer but have no other problems surfing. W98 is 5.00.2314.1003 & W2K is 5.00.2920.0000IC

Any ideas or similar experiences?

Cheers

[b][pre]Yeah yeah, I know it's time for an update, but
it ain't broke so I'm reluctant to waste time fiddling.

164047 2003-07-31 00:07:00 Thats happened to me as well. No idea why it does it, sometimes it works fine other times I just get all that data stuff. Try clearing the Cache and see if that makes any difference. Odin (227)
164048 2003-07-31 00:32:00 Hi Billy

I tried it with WinXP and IE6.0 without any probs. Not much help I know, but it may be worth knowing that the site works with one combination at least...

Incidentally, the results for JetStart were:
"Your line speed is approximately 9668.2 Kbps or 1184.8 K bytes/sec
"(Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes)"

164049 2003-07-31 01:05:00 Well, it just worked ok, and gave the right display. Using Win98SE and IE 5.5 SP2. So cant think of a reason why it is giving problems ?:|

164050 2003-07-31 01:18:00 Oh dear, looks like a browser upgrade might be called for. Better image the HDD just in case then bite the bullet. :(

Now, which PCW CD had IE5.5 on it ?:| Or should I bite both bullets and jump straight to IE6.0 :O

Cheers

164051 2003-07-31 02:00:00 The April 2000 had IE 5.5 SP1 on it Billy, some of the earlier CDs that had it didnt load it properly.
IE 5.5 SP2 has gone from the MS site, but your clever sister, gave this site (clicknow.host.sk) where it can still be downloaded as the full complete file with OE and all, 38MB or so.

164052 2003-07-31 03:33:00 Well, I installed IE6 (SP1) off the August PCW Cd onto my W2K box and bugger me! Now I can't even open the speed test file. The site will open, but the file won't.

On top of that, I can open PF1 but not open any posts. It wasn't broke before I fixed it, and now it's flamin' fixed worser. X-(

I naively assumed it would carry over any security settings etc, but it seems I will now have to do some configuring.

If anybody else has experienced this on upgrading to IE6 I'd appreciate some advice. In the meantime I'm back to working on Old Faithfull & IE5.0 as at least the old sheila still works.

Cheers

Hey Terry, are you referring to me?? ?:|

If so, where exactly have I recommended that site? It looks very much like a warez site and I have never been there before in my life. :O

The link in this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) that I gave a few months ago to IE 5.5 SP2 was somewhere totally different (browsers.evolt.org) with a download of around 84MB not 38MB.

It would be no more legal than that warez site, of course, since only MS is supposed to be distributing it, but I don't appreciate the implication that I frequent warez sites or use their products. :-(

You could, of course, be referring to another sister of Billy's, of whom I know nothing about.......
