| 164446 | 2003-08-03 05:59:00 | Hello, I also can't get my soundcard to work after installing mandrake 9.1. I have tried several times to reconfigured and for the wizard in the control center to select other drivers, but with no success. However I do get the following error message. "Error with initialising the sound driver. device/dev/dsp can't be opened(file or directory) the sound server will continue, using the null output device" during installation was this directory "device/dev/dsp" suppose to be created?? Should I create this directory with the dsp file loaded into it? Also I'm unable to run Aumix? nothing happens when this program is selected? Do I need to install it or is it not important? any advice would be helpful, thanks Craig |

It is not actually a real device or file ... it is a logical link to the actual sound device., and it should have been made as part of the installation. Find the HOWTO-Sound (your GUI's documentation viewer will have it ... ) and have a read. I think the problem is that your sound card has not been automatically detected ... therefore no driver was installed for it, and no link can been made to it because it does not "exist". Installing a suitable driver module with an RPM will cause a link to be made. |

IIRC this is the Mandrake configuration app. Try running: cat /proc/pci This should print a list of devices... Make sure your soundcard is listed (Be worried if you have onboard sound and it aint). You can also try: aumix -v 100 -w 100 This will turn up the volumes for both Master & PCM Volume levels. Hope this helps Chill. |
