164261 2003-07-31 11:25:00 i have a computer with a gigabyte mb with an intel 815 agp chipset. my problem is it is continually crashing the os that is on it. i have installed xp on another hdd and it runs perfectly on a bench test. when i boot up the above computer i get this message. windows will not start due to the following file missing or corrupt. \windows\system32\config\system
is there a fix for this or am i up for a new chipset or motherboard.
please help

164262 2003-07-31 11:42:00 Have you tried running a repair by inserting the Install CD, rebooting and starting off the install.

It will then prompt you saying it's found another WinXP install, and rather than re-install it, would you like to repair the OS?!

164264 2003-07-31 11:48:00 I had the same problem with two PCs running xp pro, I simply reimaged them, but I am still am interested in why it happened and is there a better cure. Oh by the way xp would hang trying to do a administrative repair using the cdrom hence the reimage.
