164714 2003-08-02 09:59:00 Is there any way to change .wav files to .wma or .mp3? There are occasions when I want to edit music which has to be done using .wma files, but then the finished product is too large to email. Can the .wav files be converted? Shortstop (632)

Which Codecs Do I Need?
First of all do not download and install all available codecs, you will only be wasting your time and at the same time making dBpowerAMP run slower. dBpowerAMP is able to handle the most popular formats straight after install (see built-in Codecs below).

Which Codecs do you need?, here is a short guide - first make sure your intended player supports the audio type:

Highest Possible Quality - go for a lossless (it looses no sound quality) codec such as Monkeys Audio,
Compromise on Space - best lossy would be Musepack above 160Kbps it cannot be beaten,
Most Compatible - that would be mp3, it is built into dBpowerAMP so no need to download it,
Portable Player - if supported by your flash memory player go for Windows Media Audio and fit more audio tracks, if you have an iPod go for the newest mp4!

I've used MusicMatch to do much the same for ripping, playing, recording, burning etc.

So will the dbpoweramp convert .wav to .wma ? as asked by the poster?

164720 2003-08-03 12:06:00 Or u could try Cool Edit Pro, very good program for ripping any type of audio on windows into any other format. Very good, altho file size is comprimised when u go over 200k for the birate for the file. It also hs other tools like removing vocals from tracks and mixing any number of tracks 2gether and also can encode in mp3pro. (better quality than mp3 but larger file size and avg, birate is around 190k).

cheers,
v.K

164722 2003-08-04 10:49:00 I use either EAC or CDex as Rippers, and LAME as encoder . I get MP3 with variable bit rate and CD quality sound .

The average size of a song is only between 4 . 5-6 megs and the kbs-rate varies from 450-600 .

Small enough to pack some 15 songs at CD quality onto a Blank CD .
