| 164629 | 2003-08-02 04:44:00 | I have two computers directly connected. Computer One has 630Mhz cpu, 190 Ram running Windows ME. Computer TWo has 1.5Ghz cpu, 256 Ram and WinXP. Both are connected via NIC 10/100mbps and are set to run at this speed. My problem is they seems to only be transfering at roughly 2-3 MBps. In the past, I have transfered a 2 GB file in roughly 2 minutes with my XP machine connected to other similarly powered machines which sounds right, so I'm wondering why this is transfering so slow. At presesnt, It's taking about a minute to transfer 100 MB, which I think is too slow. My question is, does the CPU speed have anything to do with it, as this is the only difference between the fast speed I have experienced, and the speed I'm getting now. |

| 164630 | 2003-08-02 06:06:00 | Hi Jerry I really don't think so about the network speed is influence about the computer speed. hmmm for me, i have a similar situation to u, i send files from Windows ME to Windows XP via my network switch, the size of my file is around 6MB, it just take couple of second.... Are you using a switch as well? 2GB is alot of stuff i think... so be patient about.. and also i used to have alot of pictures (family photo with photoshop or tif format) on my other drive and transfer to my other drive is also quite long too... It's only that I have transfered a 2GB file in the past a lot quicker that I know it is possible, and are at a loss why I can't do it now . When you think about it, 100 MB at 100mbps should take no more than 15 secs max, instead, it's taking me about a minute . I realise that there are headers and all to take into account for each packet, but these are not huge and shouldn't make that much difference to the transfer time . Otherwise, If this all sounds normal, then I am at a loss to figure out how I transfered 2GB in under 2 minutes . |
